KORROL

After the successful family performances PLOCK! and Murmur, aifoon joins forces again with Grensgeval to create the new circus performance KORROL, suitable for everyone aged four and older. In KORROL, the performer’s creativity is stimulated by locking his limbs with concrete blocks.

In KORROL, an acrobatic architect composes space using tons of concrete. He builds towers; the towers transform into a city, a deserted plain, a human being. Yet each time he tries to place the final stone, his work proves unfinished.

The acrobat balances precariously on wobbling towers, leaping onto his hands from stone to stone. But whatever he attempts, everything remains stiff and motionless. Until he starts wearing the concrete: turning on lead-heavy shoes, he orchestrates a small ballet; in a duet with a massive ball, he skims perilously close to his audience. He reconstructs his entire body.

Even as he nearly succumbs to the weight, the performer still manages to find the freedom for a duet between toe and little finger. When he lets his concrete head rest in the hands of the audience, they become co-carriers of his creation. In a world of travelling and tangible sound, they reshape the world together.

The sound research for this performance is a physical exploration of tangible listening. Or how vibrations make not only the ear but the spectators’ entire bodies resonate.
