Masterclasses

We offer two masterclasses: Masterclass Listening Art and Masterclass Listening in Motion.

Masterclass Listening Art

Through a masterclass in listening art, aifoon gives new inspiration to teachers of audiovisual arts or music. Whether you teach children or adults, in our workshops we offer a different perspective for your lessons, new tools, techniques and methods. We are happy to share our expertise on listening and sound, so that you can use it in your classroom.

We have already worked with teachers in art education from all over Flanders.

"Deepening and broadening listening skills, and learning to think and speak with your imagination provides a fantastic foundation to build on. (...) The exercises and assignments we provide are much appreciated. It creates a group feeling, forges a bond. It gives our class a warm, stimulating dynamic. It feels more like a meeting than a 'lesson'."

Masterclass Listening in Motion

How do people listen? How do they sense a space not only physically, but also aurally? And how does that affect how they move in that space? The masterclass consists of a series of intuitive exercises on listening and movement. Because active listening is not something we do with our ears only, our whole body resonates.

During this masterclass, we explore the power, the possibilities and the limits of listening with your body. Through exercises such as 'a listening improvisation' and 'compositional listening', we discover how our body reflects, filters and absorbs sound. Equipped with a portable speaker, it even becomes an instrument with which you can compose.

The masterclass Listening in Movement pivots on two major themes: the choreography of sound and the scenography of listening.

Stijn Dickel will guide this masterclass. After his studies of philosophy and mixed media, he worked as a musician-performer with Jan Fabre. He also composed several sound compositions for dance, theatre, circus and documentary. He is artistic director and listening artist at aifoon, where he investigates the relations between listening and movement/being moved.
