Artistic workshops
aifoon offers artistic workshops, both within an educational and in a recreational context.
aifoon deliberately does not work with short, one-off workshops because those don't exceed the demonstrative. We prefer to enter into long-term participatory trajectories tailored to the individual: we take people along with us for a longer period of time and let them grow at their own pace, because we are aiming for a more profound and lasting effect. We therefore ensure that the participant can continue working afterwards or we provide follow-up days.
Here are a few examples:
S.P.A.C.E., an international social education training at the VIVES (Kortrijk).
aifoon teaches workshop series about listening, sound and silence in higher education programs, for example in the context of S.P.A.C.E. , an international social education training at the VIVES (Kortrijk).
S.P.A.C.E. offers the students an artistic laboratory in which they get the chance to experiment with different muses. They meet themselves and each other in an artistic way. The labs have a free and open climate where growing, struggling, falling and getting up again is encouraged. The intercultural composition of the group ensures that there is reflection on and outside the common and familiar frames of reference. The growth process is documented by the students through a portfolio.
Some S.P.A.C.E students said:
- "I never worked with sounds like we did with aifoon. I learned to listen in a different way."
- "It opened my eyes on what is possible with sound. It also made me realize that sound is do diverse and is capable of supporting just about everything in life."
- "It was very nice that the teachers in the class were really active, motivating and had prepared a lot of different things."
A soundscape for the library
In Audiotopia the pupils of the music school in Aalst made an audio hack for the library. They hijacked the public space with self-recorded sounds. Through their elaborate sound composition the youngsters injected a new sonorous layer in a place where sound is taboo.
This project was supported by Cultuurkuur. Read here what the teacher thought of the project (in Dutch).
Nature sounds in the city
With the pupils of the Steiner secondary school in Aalst, we spent a week in nature. This way, we got to know the sounds of nature better. The pupils made a lot of recordings and used these nature sounds to create a sound revolution in the city.
The artistic power of sound
In the audio-visual courses of part-time art education, visual art often predominates. To remedy the fact that the auditory aspect is sometimes underexposed, aifoon offers workshops to give students a taste of the artistic possibilities of sound, silence and listening in a participatory manner.
For instance, aifoon gives a series of workshops to the students of CADIX in Antwerp.
