Sound is so much more than what you hear. It is a powerful artistic language that evokes emotions, transforms spaces, and connects communities. In our artistic workshops, you’ll engage in experiments, sound recordings, and out-of-the-box composition techniques to further explore sound.

Our artistic workshops are for anyone who wants to explore the art of listening in new and creative ways. Are you curious about using sound as a creative medium, but you're not sure where to start or what to listen for? An aifoon workshop takes you on a journey of discovery, where you can experiment, create, and grow at your own pace.

What will you learn and experience?

Your listening skills will be challenged and transformed. You’ll learn to listen differently; you’ll hear things you’ve never noticed before.
You’ll discover how sound can hack and transform spaces, from libraries to classrooms.
You’ll learn to compose soundscapes that tell stories and evoke emotions.
You’ll develop practical skills that you can apply immediately in your own work or studies.
You’ll experiment with sound installations that add a new dimension to public spaces.

We don’t believe in quick fixes or demonstrations. We believe in process, not performance. In our workshops, you’ll have the space to experiment, fail, try again, and ultimately find your own artistic voice. With follow-up support and guidance so you can continue on your own afterwards.

The result? You’ll start listening to the world differently, with concrete tools for incorporating sound into your own creative practice.

S.P.A.C.E., an international training program for social workers at VIVES University of Applied Sciences (Kortrijk).

S.P.A.C.E. offers students an artistic laboratory where they have the opportunity to experiment with various forms of expression. They discover themselves and connect with one another through art. The labs foster a free and open environment that encourages growth, struggle, failure, and resilience. The group’s intercultural composition ensures that participants also reflect on and beyond conventional and familiar frames of reference. Students document their growth process through a portfolio. Each edition evolves into a unique laboratory where listening, creating, and reflecting come together.

A soundscape for the library

In Audiotopia, students from the music school in Aalst created an 'audio hack' (a creative intervention using sound) for the library. They reclaimed the public space with sounds they recorded themselves. Through their ingenious sound composition, the young people injected a new sonic layer into a place where silence is the norm.

Sounds of Nature in the City

Together with the students from the Steiner middle school in Aalst, we spent a week immersed in nature. There, we learned to listen to nature and its many sounds. With their recordings, the students wanted to spark a true sound revolution in the city – to make nature audible again in urban life.

The Artistic Power of Sound

In the audiovisual programs of part-time arts education, visual arts often take center stage. Because the auditory aspect is frequently overlooked in these programs, aifoon offers workshops to give students a hands-on experience of the artistic possibilities of sound, silence, and listening.
