De Zwerm: Compositions

What happens when sound isn’t just heard, but also moved?
De Zwerm is a portable audio system that allows sound to travel in all directions—and can even be used as a musical instrument. It’s a sound installation that builds, shifts, and reshapes sonic environments – just like in everyday life, where sound constantly surrounds and influences us.

This project is driven by a fascination with how sounds come together, communicate, conceal, or amplify one another. But also with what sound does to how we listen: how it sparks our imagination, how it invites connection and movement.

In De Zwerm: Compositions, De Zwerm comes to life in a live performance. In direct dialogue with the speakers, the performer uses their voice and body to create a dynamic interplay of sound.
De Zwerm responds, transforms, moves—and sets her in motion again, too.

At the same time, a choreography of sound takes shape. Speakers are moved, stacked, rearranged. The audience plays an active role: each visitor receives a speaker, becoming a co-creator of the composition.

De Zwerm: Compositions invites a new way of listening – sound as a movement, and as a shared experience.
