Find a sound that isn’t human-made. Focus on it for three minutes.

EXTERIOOR

Who actually decides how your neighbourhood sounds? Every day we are immersed in sounds we did not choose: traffic, construction sites, air conditioners, sirens. Sounds that unconsciously affect our mood and quality of life. But what if you could help decide the soundtrack of your living environment? What if a square could sound the way you want it to?

Exterioor places auditory democracy at its core. Through our portable speaker system De Zwerm, you can collectively explore what kind of sound you want to live in. Because why would we remain passive receivers of sound if we can also become active designers of our acoustic landscape?

How does it work? The software of De Zwerm makes it possible to control loudspeakers in real time in public space. You literally get the controls in your hands: create your own composition for a square by assigning sounds to speakers, which you then place strategically in the space. The result? A collaborative sound design in which you want to live.

From missed sounds to a new reality.
What can you hear now, and what would you like to add?

Do you miss something? Birds that no longer sing? Do you love fountains? Or do you feel like adding something absurd, like a giant purring cat? Which sound combinations support each other? Adding sounds can mask, amplify, and reframe existing sounds.

The final result? An experience that lets you taste a different auditory reality. A moment in which you discover that listening can be a creative act.

Public spaces thus become places that truly feel like your own.
